Where Is the Model Number on My Faucet?
Faucet model numbers are usually on a tag on the supply line under the sink, the box, or the instructions, not on the faucet itself. Where each major brand puts it, where to look on a shower, and why the model number is not the part number.

Short answer. On most sink faucets the model number is on a small tag attached to a supply line under the sink, plus the original box, instructions and receipt. It is rarely on the visible faucet. On a shower there is no tag, so look on the back of the trim plate, the valve body and the cartridge. Remember the model number names the faucet, not the cartridge. It leads you to the parts list, which gives the cartridge number.
Where to look on a sink faucet
- The supply lines under the sink. Look for a small plastic or paper tag zip-tied or stuck to a supply hose. Delta and Moen both point here. Tags get cut off during installs, so check both sides.
- The box, instructions and receipt. If the house still has them, this is the most reliable source.
- The faucet itself. Some faucets carry a series number on the back of the spout or under the base. Moen notes some of its faucets print a series number on the back of the spout, which narrows it down even though it is not the full model number.
Where each brand points you
| Brand | Where they say to look | If you cannot find it |
|---|---|---|
| Delta | Packaging next to the UPC, or a tag on the supply line | Delta’s online product identifier |
| Moen | Packaging, instruction sheet or receipt; a tag on the supply line; some faucets have a series number on the back of the spout | Moen’s faucet identifier, which takes a photo |
| Kohler | Box label, literature, receipt, or a stamp on the product. Model numbers usually start with K, sometimes left off | Kohler customer support |
Where to look on a shower
Showers have no supply-line tag, and the paperwork is usually long gone. In order:
- The back of the trim plate, once it is off. Some are stamped or labeled.
- The valve body. Cast letters or numbers on the brass, often under scale. A flashlight at a low angle helps.
- The cartridge. Molded text or a number on the body or cap.
If none of those turn anything up, see how to identify a shower valve with no brand or model number.
The model number is not the part number
This trips up a lot of orders. The model number identifies the faucet. The cartridge inside has its own part number. The two are different formats, and searching a model number in a parts catalog usually finds nothing. Some faucets also changed cartridges during their production run, so the same model can take different cartridges depending on when it was made. Moen notes this happens with some of its own cartridges.
The right path is model number, then the manufacturer’s parts list for that model and date, then the cartridge number.
No tag, no paperwork, no number
Very common, especially on older, builder-grade and store-brand faucets. Identify the part from the faucet instead:
- Photograph the cartridge next to the handle and a specialist identifies the replacement.
- Measure it and narrow it down in the CID Finder.
- Learn the method in how to identify a faucet cartridge.
If you already know the part, browse replacement cartridges.
Common questions
Where is the model number on a kitchen or bathroom faucet?
Usually on a small tag attached to one of the supply lines under the sink, and on the original box, instructions and receipt. Delta and Moen both point to the supply-line tag. It is rarely printed anywhere you can see with the faucet installed.
Where is the model number on a shower?
Showers have no supply-line tag. Look on the back of the trim plate, on the valve body once the trim is off, and on the cartridge. The manual or the original box is the most reliable source if the house still has it.
Is the model number the same as the part number?
No. The model number identifies the whole faucet. The cartridge has its own part number, and the same model can use different cartridges depending on when it was made. The model number gets you to the right parts list; the parts list gives the cartridge number.
My faucet has no tag and no paperwork. What now?
Identify it from the faucet and the cartridge instead. Moen and Delta both offer faucet identification tools on their sites. For older, unbranded or store-brand faucets, a photo of the cartridge next to the handle lets a specialist identify the part.
Do Kohler model numbers start with K?
Kohler says its model numbers usually start with K, but the K is sometimes left off on labels and stamps.
