Glacier Bay and Pegasus Cartridge Replacement: Which Part You Need

Glacier Bay and Pegasus are Home Depot house brands. How to get the cartridge out, find the part number for your model, and get hot and cold right.

On this page

Short answer. Glacier Bay and Pegasus are Home Depot house brands, and the cartridge depends on your faucet model, not the brand name. Home Depot’s installation guide for the model has a service parts table with the part number. On two-handle faucets the guides list separate hot and cold cartridges, so note which side yours came from. On single-handle tub and shower valves the guides print RP20006 or RP20075, depending on the guide. A bare RP number does not prove the brand, because Delta and Peerless use RP numbers too.

Get to the cartridge

These steps follow Home Depot’s guides for single-handle Glacier Bay and Pegasus tub and shower valves.

  1. Shut off the water to the tub and shower, then open the handle to relieve pressure. The guides say to do this before replacing any part.
  2. Take the handle off. It is held by a set screw.
  3. Unscrew the sleeve.
  4. Remove the screw in the inverter and lift the inverter off. Note which way its marked side faces.
  5. Look at the red limit stop ring on the stem and remember where it sits. It limits how far the handle can turn toward hot.
  6. Unscrew the bonnet (the guides also call it the bonnet nut), then draw out the cartridge.

If it will not come out by hand, stop and read our guide to stuck cartridges before you pry.

Before you replace anything, note that Home Depot’s 2023 tub and shower guides list a loose bonnet nut and a sealed washer that is out of place on the cartridge as causes of a drip from the spout.

On two-handle faucets the guides’ parts lists run handle, then bonnet nut, then cartridge. When water will not shut off completely, the guides say to remove the handle, check the cartridge, and clean or replace it. Keep each cartridge with the side it came from.

What you have: Glacier Bay and Pegasus

Both brands’ guides use Home Depot RP numbers for most repair parts, and a few faucets use A507 numbers instead. There is no single Glacier Bay cartridge: the guides list different ones for tub and shower valves, two-handle faucets, single-handle sink faucets and kitchen faucets, so the brand name alone narrows nothing. The model number leads to the right guide, and the guide’s service parts table gives the cartridge. Order by the part number, not the model number. If you service these for customers, work from the guide for the model.

Where the faucet ID tag is depends on the faucet. The guides’ parts drawings mark it behind the handle on the tub and shower valves in the 2017 and 2023 guides, on the hot water inlet on several sink and kitchen faucets, and behind the hot water handle on the widespread, Roman tub and Pegasus two-handle faucets. Where is the model number on my faucet covers the rest.

Home Depot revises its guides, and the two tub and shower numbers show it. The 2015 guide and the Pegasus guide print RP20006, and the 2017 and 2023 guides print RP20075. We found no Home Depot document that says one replaces the other, so treat them as two different part numbers until the guide for your model says which one you need.

Hot and cold on a two-handle faucet

Home Depot’s two-handle guides do not list one cartridge. They list a hot and a cold, each with its own part number: RP20013 and RP20014 on the two-handle lavatory faucets, RP20067 and RP20068 on the Roman tub, and A507071W and A507072W on the widespread. Before you pull anything, note which side it came from, and order the number for that side.

Single-handle cartridges are different, because the guides print one number for either side. On the tub and shower valve, hot and cold come from how the cartridge sits. If they are reversed, the guides’ troubleshooting rows say to rotate the cartridge 180 degrees, and the 2015 and 2017 guides add that the notch should then face down toward the drain.

Look-alikes that cause wrong orders

Confirm it before you order

With the cartridge out, check it against the guide for your model, not against a listing. On a two-handle faucet, confirm the side. On a tub and shower valve, note the notch and the red limit stop ring. Then set the old cartridge beside the new one: the same body diameter, bottom pattern, stem and stop. If you can measure the diameter, narrow it down in the CID Finder.

Where to get the replacement

These are the Glacier Bay and Pegasus cartridge numbers in the Home Depot guides we read. The ones in stock ship direct to your jobsite or shop. For any other, send a photo and a specialist checks it.

Still not sure which one you have?

The table settles the common cases. It stops helping when the model number is gone, someone has already swapped in a part from another faucet, or the cartridge in your hand matches nothing above. Photograph it next to the handle and trim, including the bottom and the stem tip. Send us the photo. A specialist confirms the exact replacement and posts an itemized written quote. Nothing is charged until you approve it.

Putting the new one in

On a single-handle tub and shower valve, Home Depot’s guides go in this order.

  1. Install the O-rings and the cartridge in the valve body. The guides list the two O-rings as separate parts (RP60101 and RP60091). Make sure the key on the cartridge is fully engaged with the slot in the valve body.
  2. Slide the bonnet over the cartridge and thread it on. The 2015 and 2017 guides say to hand tighten it securely. The 2023 guides say to tighten it with a wrench until the O-ring on the valve body is covered completely, at 10 to 12 N·m. An over-tight bonnet nut makes the handle hard to turn.
  3. Put the inverter on with its marked side facing down and secure it with its screw. The guides call that side a notch, and the Builders guide calls it the arrow side. Then screw the sleeve on and hand-tighten it only.
  4. Turn the stem clockwise to the off position, then put the handle on and secure it with its set screw.
  5. Check for leaks with the handle in the full on mixed position, then shut the water off again.

The red limit stop ring decides how hot the water can get. Before you hand the valve back, run the water with a thermometer in the stream, as the guides suggest. If the ring needs to move, follow the Adjusting the Temperature steps in the guide for your model. The 2015 guide puts a comfortable bath or shower at 90°F to 100°F.

Common questions

Are Glacier Bay and Pegasus cartridges the same?

Some part numbers are printed in both brands' Home Depot guides. RP20006 appears in the Glacier Bay and Pegasus single-handle tub and shower guides, and RP20013 and RP20014 in both brands' two-handle lavatory guides. That is the same number, not a promise that every faucet from the two brands takes the same cartridge.

Where do I find the part number for a Glacier Bay cartridge?

In the installation guide for your faucet model. Its service parts page lists the cartridge by part number and marks where the faucet ID tag is: behind the handle on the 2017 and 2023 tub and shower valves, on the hot water inlet on several sink and kitchen faucets, or behind the hot water handle on the widespread, Roman tub and Pegasus two-handle faucets.

Do two-handle Glacier Bay faucets use the same cartridge for hot and cold?

Not in Home Depot's guides. The two-handle lavatory guides list RP20013 for hot and RP20014 for cold, the Roman tub guide lists RP20067 and RP20068, and the widespread guide lists A507071W for hot and A507072W for cold. Note which side the cartridge came off.

Does an RP number mean my cartridge is a Delta?

No. Delta and Peerless number their repair parts with RP, and so do Home Depot's Glacier Bay and Pegasus guides. A bare RP number does not name the brand. Start from the faucet's brand and model, or send a photo of the cartridge.

Why do some Glacier Bay tub and shower guides list RP20006 and others RP20075?

The 2015 single-handle guide and the Pegasus guide print RP20006. The 2017 and 2023 guides print RP20075. We found no Home Depot document saying one replaces the other, so do not assume they are interchangeable. Check the guide for your model number, or send us a photo.
