Shower valves, specifically
Shower cartridges are bigger than faucet cartridges and they come apart differently — most single lever valves leave a piece behind, and thermostatic bodies come out in halves. Pull the cartridge, lay it on a flat surface next to a tape measure or ruler, then shoot these two angles. Same instructions the app walks you through.
Many pressure-balance style cartridges leave a balancing spool behind in the valve body. Pull the spool too and lay it next to the tape. The spool is what confirms which replacement style your valve takes — without it we have to pause the match and send you back to the valve.
The most common miss on this type. If half the cartridge is still in the valve it can't be matched yet. Photos of multiple pieces laid out next to a tape measure are perfect.
Two-handle and three-handle tub-shower valves take stems, and the sides are not interchangeable. Lay the stem next to a tape measure, shoot the overall length and the diameter, and tell us the spline count and which way it turns off if you can see it.
Shower cartridges come out looking rough. That's fine. Body profile, length, port layout and splines are usually enough for us to name the part, even when the stamp is long gone.
Seized cartridges happen. Send the escutcheon, the handle, and whatever you can see down the valve body — we'll narrow the family and tell you what puller you need. Our step-by-step identification process covers the harder calls, and our guide to identifying a faucet cartridge walks through the traits we read. The identifier tool turns those traits into a spec sheet.
